Wetteskind – Heidi (Adelheid) Wetteskind (Then) of Brooks, Alberta, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023 at the extraordinary age of 102 years. Heidi was born in Windshausen, Germany on May 12, 1921, to Gregor and Helene Then. She married her soulmate, Sieg, on May 20, 1947. On July 4, 1948, they welcomed their first child, Herbert, followed by a daughter, Brigitte, on September 2, 1950. In 1952, the family immigrated to Canada and made their home in Patricia, Alberta. During their time there, they established the Patricia Garage where Heidi kept the books in order and the hired hands fed. In 1967, Sieg and Heidi moved their family to Brooks and opened Sieg’s Motors. Heidi was the heart and soul of the family and her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Heidi enjoyed music, gardening, reading, baking and cooking – no one ever left her table hungry. Family and friends will remember her strength, compassion, gentleness and her love of God and the church. Heidi was predeceased by her loving husband Sieg, devoted son Herb, great grandchildren Joseph and Katherine Fleck, parents and siblings. She is survived by her daughter Brigitte Smith and her husband Ken, daughter-in-law Jan Wetteskind, grandchildren Lori (Zed) Noel, Kari (Craig) Smit, Tina (Mike) Fleck, Kevin (Tricia) Wetteskind and Kelly Smith; and great-grandchildren Nathan and Janelle Smit, Ari and Avian Noel, Elijah and Canaan Fleck, Damon, Aleece, Ella and Taggart Wetteskind. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 1st at 2:00 PM from St. Mary’s Catholic. Father Marino Infante Celebrant. The family of Heidi would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the dedicated staff of Orchard Manor, Homecare, and the doctors and nurses of the Brooks Hospital. In memory of Heidi, if family and friends desire, tributes may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
