With great sadness we announce the passing of Winton Edwin Wangsness on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in Brooks, Alberta at the age 91 years. Same day as his father’s birthday. Winton was born on November 21, 1926 at home near Coronation, Alberta to parents Joe and Anna, the 3rd oldest of five children. He met mom, Jean Schmidt at a function in Coronation and were married on November 7, 1949. They were blessed with 7 children. Dad grew up south of Coronation, went to Glengile and Sounding Creek schools. He was employed by Central Alberta Dairy Pool in Coronation hauling cream from farms in the area. In 1953, he bought his own truck and hauled cream for another 6 years. In the spring of 1960, he started working as a battery operator for Petcal Co. Ltd. who contracted for Canadian Homestead. In 1969 he was transferred to Duchess, where he operated their plant at Princess. In 1971 he was transferred to the plant at Hatton and they moved to Irvine, where he worked until he retired in 1991, and they moved to Innisfail. They moved back to Brooks in 2003, to be nearer to family. From Signature Square Apartment, they moved to Orchard Manor. When his health failed in the winter of 2018, Brooks Long Term Care became his home, where he was treated with compassion and dignity. Dad has always enjoyed woodworking and has sold his work to people in England and many parts of the U.S.A. and Canada. All of his family proudly display his work. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, drawing, feeding the birds, music, shuffleboard, tending to his flower beds and pots, going for drives, camping in the mini-home and Christmas was his very favorite holiday. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and loved each and every visit from his friends as well. Dad will always be remembered and loved by his 5 daughters, Trudy (Gary) Koleyak of Duchess, Emily Elliott of Rocky Mountain House, Lorrie (Greg) Franz of Medicine Hat, Renie (Brian) McAmmond of Medicine Hat, and Tammie (Lyle) Ebelher of Dunmore; Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Michelle (Darrell) Elsbett, Brady and Tori, Tracie (Brad) Ion, Decker, Jordie and Payton, Curtis (Tammy) Elliott, Courtney, Colby and Ryan, Kim (Chris) Grubisic, Cole Isaac and Bensen, Jody (Nikki) Elliott, Jayda and Sienna, Kevin (Nicole) Franz, Chris, Mason and Tristan, Tara (Blake) Brown, Tanner, Jaden and Kaycee, Colin (Torani) McAmmond, Sheldon (Jenn) McAmmond, Aubrey, Devon and Dillon, Alicia Ebelher, Temara Ebelher and Clayton Ebelher; he will also be mourned by his brothers-in-law Emil Nelson, Bruce Jewett, Pete (Alaline) Schmidt and David Glasier, sister-in-law Annette Barnes and Betty Schmidt and many nieces, nephews and friends.
