    Neil Wallace passed away peacefully, in his home, surrounded by his family on January 23rd, 2003, at the age of 84 years. He and his twin brother were born in Galarneauville, Alberta on December 16th, 1918. His family moved to the Gem area in the 1930’s. Neil married Kathleen Stiles on September 11th,1945 and they farmed and raised their family in Gem until retiring to Brooks in 1983.

    Neil was predeceased by his loving wife Kay in 1988 and a sister Jean Bevan in 2001.

    He is survived by his beloved friend and companion Kaye Cote; daughter Susan (George) Hofmann and their children Robyn (Trevor), Ryan, Georgia (Trevor), Odele and Nathan (Carla); daughter Gay (Reed) Crapo and their children Nathan (Marianne), Daniel (Leslie), Dana (Brad) and Trevor; son Robert (Wendy) and their children Sarah and Emma; son Kelly (Theresa) and their children Scott and Steven and daughter Nancy (Alec) Campbell and their children Amy, Natalie and Neil. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Cory, Kianna, Camille, Audrey, Rhett and Ginger; his sisters Betty MacKenzie, Nan (Bob) Marsh and Anne (Derald) Willows; his twin brother Will (Marg) and brother Taylor (Ada) and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Neil enjoyed horses, whether riding on the lease or in gymkhana events. He participated in a variety of sports (curling, horseshoes, shuffleboard) and was competitive in them all. His passion for sporting activities continued throughout his life. Neil was active in the community, his involvement ranged from caring for the ice rink in Gem, to planting flowers at the Prairie Pioneers in Brooks.

    He was an active farmer continuing to work after retirement on his children’s farms, always ready to lend a hand or jump on a machine. Neil continued with planting fields in his gardening endeavours in Brooks, competing with his daughters and neighbours with early tomatoes, corn crops and flower gardens.

    Neil will be remembered for his devotion to his family, many family gatherings were held in his home, keeping the over 40 members of his immediate family extremely close. His memory will be carried in the hearts of his family and friends.

    A Celebration of Neil’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 28th, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooks. Rev. Jake Doerksen officiated.
