Frances Van Wert, beloved wife of Cornelius Van Wert of Tilley, passed away in Brooks on July 29th, 2005 at the age of 85 years. Born in Medicine Hat on April 23rd, 1920 she grew up and received her education in the Dunmore/Pashley area. Frances (nee Read) and Cornelius were married in Medicine Hat on October 7th, 1940. They started their married life together farming the British Block in the Bingville district until their land was expropriated by the government in July of 1941. They finally settled on a farm in the Tilley district in March of 1942 where they farmed for 30 years. They moved to the village of Tilley in 1970 and have resided there since. Frances and Cornelius were caretakers of the Tilley School for 8 years until retiring when they enjoyed much community and church involvement and traveling. Frances was pianist at both Bethany and Faith Lutheran Churches for many years and had volunteered many hours at the Tilley Community Hall. She will be lovingly remembered for the love for her family, for being very organized, for being an excellent cook and for her love of her plants. Frances is survived by her loving husband Cornelius of 64 years, her children Ron and his wife Sigrid, Dianne Voroney and her husband Richard; 2 grandsons Joe (Kim) and Jeff (Sheryl) and 4 great grandchildren Bryce, Spencer, Grace and Murray all of Tilley. Family Interment service were held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 3rd in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Tilley. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday afternoon from Tilley Community Hall. Rev. Dave Glawe and Rev. John Theiss officiating. Pallbearers are her nieces and nephews Sharon Read, Loren Read, Joe Read, Matt Read, Ed Read and Jay Galarneau.
