    Andrew John Van Oene

    November 12, 1945 ~ May 25, 2018

     

    Andrew John Van Oene, aged 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Hinton, Alberta on May 25, 2018 after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

    Andrew was born on November 12, 1945 in Deloraine Manitoba. He was predeased by his parents Roy and Gladys Van Oene. Andrew is survived by his children Evelynn (Michael) Bell, Jody Beck (Ron Taylor), Carla (Kristopher) Rebman, Amber Van Oene, 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild, his loving partner Kenna Frizzell, her 4 children and their 9 grandchildren, his siblings Clifford (Virginia) Van Oene, Hazel (Russell) Charles, four half-brothers Eldon, Ron, Rick, Lyle, their spouses and numerous nephews and nieces.

    The Roy Van Oene family moved to Patricia, Alberta in 1956 where Andrew attended Haddington School and later graduated from Duchess Senior High School. After receiving his 1st Class Journeyman Welding Ticket from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, he worked for his mentor and close friend,  Whitey Norden, at the Tilley Welding shop. His welding career spanned over the next 50 years, taking him all over most of Canada. He provided guidance and mentorship to many members of the welding  community over the years and was a well-regarded co-worker and friend. His words to live by were  “Stand by your co-workers”.

    Andrew Van Oene family resided for many years in Tilley, Alberta, raising their four daughters. Andrew  is remembered for many contributions to the community, St. Jude’s parish, the Tilley volunteer fire department, coached minor league baseball, and president of the Tilley Curling Club. He was awarded a  25-year pin from the Governor General for volunteer firefighter. He later moved to Hinton and in 1992 he began working as a Pipeline and Facilities Inspector until his retirement in 2015. The family of Andrew Van Oene would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at the Hinton Hospital for their professional attention and care.

    The Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion EID #63, 235 – 3 Street West, Brooks Alberta, on July 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #249, 250 Pembina Ave, Hinton, Alberta on July 31, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
