Unruh – Ella was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on August 15, 1927. After a short time in Saskatchewan and British Columbia, the family made their final move to the Rosemary, Alberta in 1932. Ella lived in the Rosemary area until 2012, when her and Wally moved to the Newbrook Lodge in Brooks. She was transferred to Sunrise Gardens, Brooks in March of 2019, where she resided until her passing on November 2, 2022. Ella completed school at the Clemeneau School in Countess, Alberta. She married Waldemar Unruh on December 31, 1950 in Rosemary. Ella was a housewife, mother and Wally’s right hand throughout her life. She was very sports minded enjoying skiing, baseball, and swimming. She would watch her children and grandchildren play any kind of sports and never missed a game. Ella loved camping, gardening, cooking, travelling, dressing up for Halloween, and also had a deep affection for all animals especially horses as she talked of her horse Nellie many times. Her faith in God was very important to her and she was baptised in the Mennonite Church. Ella was a member of the church choir and a reliable member of the Ladies Aide church group. Ella will be best remembered for her love of family and her big heart. She lived her life with compassion and empathy and never judged anyone. She had the best smile and the warmest hugs. She was also a loyal friend. Ella was predeceased by her father Otto, mother Anna, sisters, Ruth and Martha and brother Alf. Ella leaves to mourn her passing and hold onto fond memories by her husband Wally, her children Betty Jean (Bill), Harold (Ellen), and Richard (Heather), seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 7 at 1:00 PM from the Rosemary Mennonite Church. Mr. Ryan Stockert officiated. Interment followed at the Rosemary Cemetery. In memory of Ella, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 5K9.
