Tryhorn – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rex Tryhorn of Patricia, peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023 at the age of 76 years, after a brief battle with cancer. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Jenny Tryhorn; 3 daughters, Sharon, Shirley and Sheila; 6 grandkids, Chase, Chelsea, Montana, Mason, Sebastien and Kaylee; 3 great grandkids and siblings Rae, Russel, Rorie, Debbie and Adelaide. Rex was predeceased by his parents Ronald and Isabelle, brother Ron and his wife Chris, mother-in-law Joan, father-in-law Reginald and brothers-in-law Allan and Tony. While enlisted with the British Army and stationed in Singapore, Rex met Jenny and after returning to England they would marry and welcome their first child Sharon. While living the military life they moved to Germany and they expanded their family when they brought their second child, Shirley in the world. Many years later Rex and Jenny moved to Canada, where their third daughter Sheila was born. Soon after, they moved to Alberta where Rex would find his true calling and began working for the Easter Irrigation District as a ditch rider in Rainier and soon after transferred to Patricia, where he worked until his retirement. Rex was a very dedicated Legion member and was the President of EID Legion in Brooks and for many years he travelled to schools in Brooks and surrounding area to hold Remembrance Day assemblies. He was also a member of the Toastmasters Club and would later use that knowledge to teach Air Cadets how to properly speak to the public. When Rex had free time, he was normally found having a draft beer in his very own mug, eating a “Rex Burger” and playing pool at the Patricia Hotel. Rex was always a part of the community he lived in and had the community’s best interests at heart. Rex has had many close calls with death so to understand who he was you would have to know how hard he fought to stay alive. He scoffed at 3 heart attacks, gave the virus known as “Beaver Fever” a run for its money and shook off a stroke while he was pumping gas. All the while continuing his role as President of the Legion, a member of the Toastmasters, ensuring farmers always had the water they needed and raising 3 girls. He appeared invincible, there wasn’t a disease that could take him down. Fortunately, it was those close calls that Rex conquered time after time that made him the wise, grouchy, proud, humorous and strict man we all knew and loved. Rex will be missed by so many.
