Traichel – It is with profound sadness that the family of Rolf Traichel announces his peaceful passing in Medicine Hat, Alberta on April 16, 2023 at the age of 81 years. Rolf was born in Skeirz, Poland on January 6, 1942 to Albert and Johanna Traichel. At the age of 12, his family immigrated to Canada and eventually began farming in the Brooks area. On July 1, 1972, Rolf married Valentine Traichel and they started their life together on the family farm, where they raised two children: Rolf Traichel (junior) and Jennifer Traichel. Rolf is survived by his wife Val; son Rolf and grandson Hudson Traichel; daughter Jennifer (Brett Armsden) Traichel and grandchildren Janae and Payton Armsden; his sister Inge Schaible as well as numerous cousins, uncles, aunts, and nieces. Rolf will be greatly missed by those who spent time with him. Rolf had a tremendous love of German sausage making and spent years testing and perfecting many recipes. He loved gatherings with friends and family and enjoyed traditional German meals and talking long into the evenings. He had a great fondness for science fiction novels, national geographic, literature, chocolate, Archie comics, and debating any topic that arose. In between farming, Rolf worked in the oil and gas industry for 46 years starting as a young rig worker and finishing his long career at the age of 70 as a drilling rig supervisor. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Heritage Inn and Convention Centre in Brooks, Alberta on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow. A private family burial service will be held at a later time. The family wishes to send heartfelt thanks to the medical team at the Brooks Health Centre and Medicine Hat Hospital for the exceptional care and concern shown to Rolf and family.
