Town – Lawrence Lester Town of Brooks passed away peacefully in Brooks on April 1st, 2014 at the age of 90 years. Lawrence was born in Goodwater, Saskatchewan on April 3rd, 1923 and moved with his family to Moon Lake, Alberta at the age of 6. He received his education at Bloomingdale School and worked a variety of jobs before serving as a supply driver overseas during the Second World War. Lawrence met Peggy during war time and they were married in London, England before returning to Canada. He lived in the Drayton Valley area and was employed as a coal miner at Mountain Park, with the CN Railroad and even delivered milk in Edmonton with horse and buggy. He was a skilled automotive and heavy duty mechanic and in the 1960’s spent time around Drumheller, Alberta working on farms and making automotive and machinery repairs. Lawrence moved to Brooks in 1976 where he was employed as a ditchrider with the EID until retiring to Bassano, Evansburg and then Hays. Lawrence enjoyed hunting, fishing, mechanics, carpentry and country music. In the early years he played harmonica and guitar in a family band and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed spending time travelling and will be remembered for his love of life and family. Lawrence was predeceased by his loving wife Peggy in 1996, daughter Patricia in 2007, son Kenneth in 1998, 4 sisters and 5 brothers. He is survived by his loving family; daughter Vi McDowell and her husband Lynn of Brooks, son Lyle and his wife Dawn of Medicine Hat, daughter Lorraine Brown and her husband Bruce of Brooks, brother Donnie of Evansburg, Alberta, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, honourary daughter Marlene Bixby (nee Volb) and her husband Garry of Drumheller and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 12th at 2:00 PM at the Rolling Hills Community Hall, Pastor Debbie Daniels Officiating. Urn Bearers for Mr. Town will be his son Lyle and son in-law Bruce Brown. Honourary Pallbearers will be Margaret Kast, Debbie Lizee, Eileen McDowell, Leslie Hudson, Yvette Bacco, Laura Town, Amy Barton & Nakai Garrison.
