Tjeerdema – Sipkje (Sylvia) Tjeerdema of Brooks, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Ulbe Tjeerdema, passed away in Brooks on Saturday, March 20th, 2021 at the age of 92 years. Sylvia was born in Iljst, Netherlands on September 28th, 1928 to Jacob and Dirkje De Vlugt. She married Ulbe Tjeerdema on August 3rd, 1952 and immigrated to Canada. Sylvia loved gardening and camping. She really loved knitting, crocheting and sewing and made many nice things for her children and grandchildren. Sylvia loved to volunteer at the lodge and nursing home making crafts. She returned to Holland a few times to visit family there. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Dirkje De Vlugt; sister Rinkje Wierde, in-laws Jan and Trintje Tjeerdema; sister-in-law Grietje Dotinga and her husband Eleberthus Dotinga and daughter-in-law Margaret Tjeerdema. Sylvia is survived by her sister Coba (Hank) Snip of Joure, Netherlands; brother Mike (Jenny) De Vlugt of Edmonton, Alberta; her children Doreen Russill, John Tjeerdema, Tina Bull, Grace Clint and Jack Tjeerdema; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 30th at 2:00 PM from the Brooks Christian Reformed Church. Rev. John Vanderburgh officiated. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Sylvia, if friends desire, may be made directly to Brooks and District Health Foundation, for Palliative Care, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3.
