Tiessen – Tena Tiessen was born on April 29, 1918 in Rosenthal, Russia. She was adopted at the age of one and half by Jacob and Helen Krause after the death of her father and terminal illness of her mother. Mom was always told that she was a special gift to the Krause family. She was predeceased by her parents, 8 brothers and 3 sisters’ and her husband John in 1993. In August 1923, when she was 5 years old, this large family of 13 Krause immigrated to Canada, arriving first in Quebec and then on to Rosthern, Saskatchewan by train where Jacob Krause sister lived. In 1924 they moved to Great Deer, in 1925 to Milden, Saskatchewan and in 1929 to Rosemary, where Mom, attended school, church and looked after her aging parents. Her faith in Jesus Christ was always first and foremost in her life. In November 1944 she married John Tiessen and in early 1945 they moved to Tofield & on October 1, 1945 moved to Kelsey. Her father passed away the same day Richard was born, October 19, 1945. After her fathers’ death, her Mother moved to BC in the spring of 1946, where most of her children were. In 1953 Grandma Krause passed away which was a great loss to our Mom so after 6 years of not seeing her family, she took the train to B.C. for the funeral, and to have a visit with all her brothers and sisters. In the spring of 1947 Mom & Dad moved to Gem where Dad had bought a farm. And later in June Art was born, they farmed there until 1961. They moved to Rosemary and farmed till 1963, when Dad rented out the farm and took a job with the EID. Mom & Dad lived and worked in the area till 1982 when they retired and 1989 moved to Kelowna. In 1990 they moved to Brooks and in 1991 back to Rosemary. After Dad’s passing in 1993 Mom stayed in the house at Rosemary until 1999 and then moved to Brooks where she resided till her death. Tena is survived by her sons Richard (Wenda), Art (Linda); 4 grandchildren – Raylean (Paul) Crooks, Todd (Kim) Tiessen, Tammie (Pat) McConahie, Jamie Tiessen; 7 great grand children; 3 sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. On May 18, 2007, at the age of 89, Mom was called home to be with the Lord where she told us she would, see again, run and sing again, and hear music much sweeter than we can ever imagine. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 24 from Rosemary Mennonite Church. Rev. Roy Hewko officiated. Honorary and Active Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment followed at Rosemary Cemetery. In memory of Tena, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Gideon Bible, Box 85, GEM, Alberta T0J 1M0. Arrangements in care of SMITH FUNERAL HOME.
