    Swenson – Georgette Gabrielle Swenson of Brooks, Alberta, beloved wife of Lorens A Swenson, passed away in Brooks on Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at the age of 93 years.  Her parents Odiel and Gabrielle Crombez immigrated from Belgium around 1927.  Georgette was born in Raymond, Alberta on October 24th,1930 growing up at the family farm in Wilson Siding.  She was very active with her parents on the farm, started painting pictures and needlepoint at a very young age, and worked as a telephone operator in Lethbridge, Alberta.  She married Lorens Swenson on September 20th, 1952 in Lethbridge.  Lorens and Georgette built a house and thriving farm in Rainier, Alberta, where they lived and raised 3 children, Rod, Linda, and Wayne.  Lorens passed away in 1984, and Georgette continued to live at the family farm, until 1997 when she retired to Brooks.  Georgette took tremendous pride in her yard, garden and flowers with her green thumb.  She won awards for her beautiful yard and many prizes with her flowers and vegetables, while in Rainier.  Georgette was active at the family farm raising sheep, chickens, cattle and hogs, and commercial fishing on Lake Newell in the winter.  She was known for decorating cakes for community weddings and anniversaries.  Georgette was involved with the startup of the SR&B gas coop in Scandia, Rainier, and Bow City, and was the first woman bus driver in the County of Newell.  After she moved to Brooks, Georgette continued to win prizes for her beautiful yard and needlepoint pictures.  Just 2 years ago, Georgette wrote a book detailing her childhood memories, which the family cherishes.  Georgette was predeceased by her husband Lorens; her sister Maria and her brothers Walter and George.  She is survived by her children, Rod and his partner Laura; Linda and her husband Keith and Wayne and his wife Shelley and her adopted son John Stobbe; grandchildren, Erica, Cheryl, Chris, Aaron, Brian, Kevin, Tonelle, Tyler, and Shandy and 11 great grandchildren.  A Family Graveside Service was held on Saturday, August 17th at 11:00 AM from the Rainier Cemetery.  Rev. Jakob Pillibeit officiating.
