It is with great sadness that the family of Judy Stockwell announces her passing at the Brooks Hospital on Saturday July 23, 2022 at the age of 78. After a hard fought battle she passed peacefully surrounded by her family. Judy was born November 2, 1943 in Whitecourt AB. She married Stephen Stockwell on February 18, 1969. In 1975 Judy, Stephen, and their 3 children- Lanny, Sheri, and Todd moved to an acreage outside of Duchess AB. Judy was very involved in the community. Her and Betty Kramer started a volunteer catering group for the Duchess Community Hall. There wasn’t a wedding, Christmas party, or community event in the area that wasn’t catered by them. Their layered salad was renowned. The annual turkey supper served hundreds of community members each year. No one could refuse a call from Judy when looking for volunteers to help with catering. She was also very involved with the Ag Society, Curling Rink, Fall Fair, canvassed for the Red Cross, quilting, and the church. Family and friends were very important to Judy. She was always there to support and help in any way needed. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and held a special place in her heart. From countless hours of watching basketball games, rodeos, gymnastics, school events, and everything in between. The endless hours of card playing, bantering, and the “odd” drink. Judy and Stephen were very fortunate to be able to enjoy years of traveling. From Portugal to Africa, to Machu Picchu, and many winters in Yuma, they made many lifelong friends. Numerous vacations with the family where endless memories were made. Judy’s passion for gardening is evident in her beautiful yard. She was predeceased by her son Lanny Johnston, her parents Clarence and Marie McIlwaine. Judy is survived by her husband Stephen Stockwell, her daughter Sheri (Barry) Kiemele, her son Todd Stockwell (Waunitta Fitzpatrick), her grandchildren Lowen(Erica) Johnston, Landon Johnston, T.J. Johnston, Jordyn Stockwell, Taylor Kiemele, Morgan Kiemele, her great grandson William Johnston, and her brother Robert (Esther) McIlwaine. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Brooks Hospital that took such great care of our wife, mom, grandma, and friend Judy. Judy’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday July 30 at 2:00PM at the Duchess Hall with a lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Brooks and District Health Foundation in Judy’s memory. Bag 300 Brooks AB T1R 1B3 or etransfer brooks.foundation@ahs.ca. Donations can also be made through ATBcares.com and may be topped by 15%.
