Stewart – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, wife, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother Marjorie Elizabeth Landon Ellik Stewart, whom passed away in Brooks on Friday, June 30th, 2017 at the age of 96 years. She was born in Travers, Alberta, on December 16th, 1920 to parents Ida May Clark Landon Boyer and Curtis Reed Landon. Marjorie was raised in Travers and later moved to Smith, Alberta and to Brooks. She married the love of her life, Carl Ellik in June, 1942 in Brooks. They continued to live in Brooks, where Carl and Marjorie opened a Ellik’s Jewelry. After her husband Carl passed away, she continued to run the business and raised her family. She sold the business and retired in 1987. Marjorie remarried Norman Stewart May 1976 in Calgary. She was a member of the Royal Purple, since its inception in Brooks, being one of the few that helped get it started, till it was dissolved. Marjorie was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Brooks Legion #63. She has been a valued member of the community and loved visiting with her friends and family members in the various facilities (lots of whom were a lot younger than her). Marjorie was a great asset to the community volunteering her service, one such event was she and Carl and friends, volunteered their service for the Brooks Golf Club. (Taken from mom’s history) “The spring of 1954 the boys got together thought they should do something with the golf course, since it hadn’t been touched for years. They formed a work crew, nine men agreed to take turns, Hector Alexander, Harold Garrison, Del Pound, Ray Greaves, Vern Smith, Jack Irving, John Sears, Leonard Rassumsen and Carl Ellik. They had new sand brought in for the sand traps. Carl Ellik loaned them the money to buy a tractor and sickle. They took turns every morning around 5 or 6, weather permitting, to get the work done, that was harmony! All working together! The ladies thought perhaps they could help a bit, so we got together and cleaned up the club house, Kay Garrison made gingham curtains and table cloths to match. We baked some goodies and held afternoon tea’s, every penny helped!” Marjorie loved to dance and music made her heart and feet sing. Whether she was on the dance floor, tapping her fingers on the table or keeping time with her feet, she loved all of it. She was at most dances that were held in Brooks. Marjorie loved the Softones and would rarely miss one of their events. Her last dance partner, Wilson Trotter and her would sashay around the dance floor to many dances that their good friends, Jane and John Andrejcin attended, most of the time John playing. She will greatly be missed by all. Leaving behind a legacy of love for her fellow man and service to her community and love for her family. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Carl Ellik, Mar. 1966, second husband Norman Stewart, Feb. 1990 and grandson Michael John Ellik, Dec., 2016. Left to love and remember her, daughter Carolyn Ellik of Brooks, son, Cameron (Janice) Ellik of Cold Lake, Alberta and daughter Eileen (Scott) Larsen of Meridian, Idaho; 6 grandchildren, Carlyn, Shane, Ryan, Darcy, Richard, Carl; 12 great grandchildren, Brandi, Darcie, Kadrie, Parker, Isabelle, Madison, Zach, MacKenzie, Taylor, Dylan, Brayden, Paige and one special great great grandson, Ryder. We would like to thank Dr. Harris, Dr. Fouche, Dr. Muller, all the wonderful Brooks Hospital Staff, palliative caregiver, Cindy, for the loving care shown to her the short period of time she was there. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 7th at 2:00 PM from Brooks United Church. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Burial followed at Brooks Cemetery. Luncheon for family and friends was held at the Brooks EID Legion following the service.
