On Thursday, December 18, 2003, Clarence Stevens of Mayerthorpe, formerly of High Prairie, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, at the age of 85 years. Clarence was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis on April 30, 2003. He will always be loved and never forgotten by his children, Melvin (Suzanne) of Spruce Grove, Marvin (Susan) of Alder Flats, Penny Adams of Mayerthorpe, Pat (Don) McDermid of St. Albert, Susan (Rick) Martin of Mayerthorpe and Lloyd (Marilyn) of High Prairie; daughter-in-law, Jean Stevens of Calgary; sister-in-law, Gunhild Stevens of Glendon; seventeen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. Clarence was a respected citizen wherever he lived. He was the “Citizen of the Year” in Mayerthorpe in recognition of his community work. Clarence was a Life Member of Branch 37 High Prairie and was a tireless worker in the Branch serving in numerous officer positions as well as Poppy Fund Chair. He had a special passion for farming, spending hours driving “the tractor”. Most importantly though, he was a family man who loved his two generations of grandchildren. He will be missed. Predeceased by his son, Martin (2001); grandson, Shawn (2001); son-in-law, Allan Adams (1997); brother, Max; and sister, Elaine. Funeral Service Saturday, December 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Mayerthorpe Legion with Reverend Ruth Lotholz, Legion Chaplain, officiating. Cremation will follow in the Park Memorial Crematorium. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
