Stengler – Mary Magdalene Stengler of Brooks, beloved wife of the late Arthur Stengler, passed away in Brooks on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016 at the age of 70 years. Mom was born on the family farm near Mankota, Saskatchewan on April 11th, 1946 where she also completed her schooling. She married Art Stengler at the age of 17 in Mankota and they moved to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan where us five kids were born. In 1975, we moved to Brooks where mom has resided since. Mom’s life was full and busy. Besides raising five kids, she was co-owner of Art’s Welding and Pipeline and ran the office for many years. She was a parent who was at all the sports games and school functions. Mom taught religion classes before there was a Catholic School and then helped with RCIA. She went back to college in her 40’s and was always reading and learning. Her love of learning and deep faith were evident in her passion for Catholic Education, where she was a trustee for 20 years with Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools and served as Board Chair for many of those years up until the time of her death. Mom loved her job, the people she worked with, the school children; and she strove to “Leave Not One Heart Behind”. Mom’s other love was for her children and especially her 13 grandchildren. We are sure if you asked any one of them – each would say THEY were the most special grandchild – she just had that way of listening and relating to everyone. She has taught us to be strong, to be resourceful, to challenge, to be kind to others, to follow our dreams, to be a family. Mom loved music, book club, volunteering, and playing the accordion for the seniors. St. Vincent de Paul Society in Brooks held a special place in her heart and she spent countless hours helping and listening to others. She loved to travel and always said the greatest gift in life was her legs to carry her where she wanted – mom travelled the world and most enjoyed talking to the people. She built relationships wherever she went and she has told most of us here today to do the same – go for coffee, take time to talk, build a relationship. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Art in 1991 and son, Wade in 2013. She is survived by Barb (Steve) Wallace and sons Nick and Ryan, Kris (Darcy) Kerner and children Tyler, Jordan, Brooklyn and Kayley, Mark (Angela) Stengler and children Mark Jr., Hope and Luke, Kevin (Glenna) Stengler and boys Connor, Kaden and Parker; Grandson Logan Stengler; Sisters Joyce (Denis) Scantland and Gloria Sawchuk and her brother, Sylvester (Annie) Bechal as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will be forever in our hearts and memories and we are so blessed we got to call her mom and grandma. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31st at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to St. Vincent de Paul c/o St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Box 578, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B5.
