Mr. Norman Stegen of Jenner passed away on Saturday, April 8th, 2006 at the age of 90 years. Norman leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Ben (Mavis) Stegen of Medicine Hat; three nieces, Marjorie (Gerald) Kornelson of Empress, Marilyn Ross of Medicine Hat, and Carol (Greg) Callaghan of Standard; and one nephew, Grant (Leanne) Stegen of Medicine Hat. Norman was predeceased by his parents, Helmer and Bertha Stegen; and two brothers, Leonard Stegen and Harry Stegen. Norman was born on October 16th, 1915 at Jenner where he was raised on the family farm. After finishing school, he went to work for a local rancher before buying his own farm north of Jenner. He continued to live there until the time of his passing. He will be remembered for his fierce independent spirit – while in his 50’s he actually dug and poured his eight foot basement by hand for his new house. Norman was a very caring, helpful and kind individual who always extended himself to every situation that arose that could use his help. He also had a great love and appreciation for animals. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, on Tuesday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m and at UNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 8 Palliser Place NE, Medicine Hat, on Wednesday from 1:00 to 1:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in UNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH on Wednesday, April 12th, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. Interment will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery following the luncheon.
