Squirrell – Douglas “Doug” Squirrell born on May 5, 1919 in Medicine Hat and passed away peacefully on Jan. 10, 2007 at the Medicine Hat Hospital. Other than serving his country in WW 2 Doug spent his whole life ranching on the Squirrell family homestead in Jenner AB. The last of the “Squirrell Brothers” Doug wanted to be remembered for his kindness and generosity by establishing and the continuation of the “Squirrell Brothers” scholarships at Brooks and Medicine Hat College campus. Always worried about fires Doug also donated towards the local volunteer fire department and Special Areas Board. Doug was predeceased by William (father) Nov. 17, 1938, Martha Ellen (mother) Apr. 18, 1974, Fredrick (brother) Mar. 17, 1982, James Benjamin (brother) in 1995 and William (brother) May 31, 1998 and Williams’ wife Sylvia. Doug leaves behind his very near and dear friends Bob Braak and Roy Hutch of Brooks, Eric and Ida Musgrove, Keith and Dennis Ritz, Bill Aebly and Ken Simpson all of Jenner; as well as his neighbors of Jenner, Iddesleigh and Buffalo. Although Doug has left our lives he will always be remembered in our hearts. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, Jan. 21 from the Jenner Community Hall.
