It is with great sadness that we are saying good bye to Winsome Olive Spence of Brooks, beloved wife of Tom Spence, who passed away Sunday, May 11th, 2014 in Brooks at the age of 90 years. Win was born on April 14th, 1924 in Calgary. She enjoyed life to the fullest. Win was never at loss for words. She embraced everyone that met her and had an adventurous spirit. Win travelled to many countries and eventually resided in Costa Rica for 22 years. Eventually, coming back to Brooks and residing at the Newbrook Lodge. Her hobbies were photography, writing, genealogy, riding horses, and gardening. Win loved all animals and her favorites were her pet parrot” Paul”, two dogs “Bonny and Femmi” along “Dulce” her horse meaning sweet in Spanish. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Win was very proud of her faith. She was predeceased by her parents Ethel May and Oliver Joseph (Ollie) Steward, her brother Oliver (Stu) Steward, and half-brother Wayne McHargue. Win is survived by her husband Tomas Francis Spence of Brooks; her sons, Gordon John Spence and his wife Norma of Costa Rica, Richard Oliver Spence and his wife Joan of Sunnynook, Alberta and Terry Winston Spence and his wife Esther of Bonnyville, Alberta; two daughters Cherry McLennan of Medicine Hat and Joy Stevens of Edmonton; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, May 16th at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks. Rev. Dennis Bhaskar Celebrant.
