Dorothy Anne Solberg passed away in Hanna, August 22, 2018, at the age of 95. Dorothy was born October 30, 1922 in the Square Deal Area, to Lewis and Mildred Heyler.  She was “little sis” to Leona, and Mary, and big sister to baby Lewis. She attended Square Deal School, where she later taught. Dorothy was also a teacher at Red Rose, and Rose Lynn schools. In 1948 she married her neighbor and soul mate, Kermit Solberg and a few years later, son Jim was born, followed by daughter Anne. Dorothy was a Charter Member of Berry Creek Order of the Eastern Star, which was formed in 1949, and belonged to the Star for over 60 years.  She was active in the community, and contributed to FWUA, Women of Unifarm, and the Pollockville Ladies Club. She was also on the Special Areas Council for many years. Dorothy loved ranch life and she especially enjoyed riding and caring for the horses. Her favorite horse, growing up, was “Jim”.  He must have been really special, because she named her only son after him. Despite, the unkind weather in Special Areas, Dorothy grew a lovely garden, and nurtured her many flowers. She loved to bake and cook, and to entertain family and friends. Over the years, Dorothy and Kermit, enjoyed card parties, bean suppers, and square dancing. Of Course the dancing club was known as the Square Deal Squares. Curling was also, a part of their community life and Dorothy continued to be an avid curler, well after Kermit’s passing; bonspiels were never without Dorothy. In later years, the birth of her grandchildren, were the high points in her life.  Michael, Rhea, and Sarah.  In the last year of her life, she was blessed with great grandchildren, Lizzie and David.  Dorothy was predeceased by Kermit, Jim, and her siblings.  She will be remembered and missed by her family and friends. Memorial Services for Dorothy, will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 2:00pm from the Pollockville Hall. Reception to follow.
