SMITH – WILLIAM DALE SMITH, beloved husband of Esther, passed away in Brooks on Friday, April 1st, 2022 at the age of 96 years. Dale was born on April 2nd, 1925 on the family farm at Abercrombie, SK. He grew up on the farm moving to Kingston, Ontario in 1943 to enlist in the Canadian Army Signal Corp. Dale received an Honorable Discharge in 1945, after contracting Scarlet Fever. It was then that Dale decided he wanted to be a Funeral Director. He apprenticed at Truscott Brothers Funeral Home in Hamilton, receiving his Ontario License in 1947. Dale and Esther were married in Hamilton on October 31st, 1944. They moved to Calgary, where Dale worked at Jacques Funeral Home. He had to re-apprentice to receive his Alberta Funeral Director’ License, which he received in 1951. He moved his family to Brooks that same year and began Smith Funeral Home, which he operated until his retirement. Dale was involved in many organizations through the years – serving as Town Councilor from 1971 to 1977 and then as Mayor from 1977 to 1980 and Member and Chairman of the Brooks and District Hospital Board for a total of ten years. Dale was a man who truly loved the Lord. He was a member of the Brooks E Free Church. Dale is survived by his loving wife Esther; his two daughters Donna and Carol; his son Ron and their families. He was predeceased by two daughters Linda and Sharon. Dale will be best remembered for the love for his family, his sense of humour and his love of travelling. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 8th, at 11:00 AM from the Brooks E Free Church. Pastor Garth Everett officiating. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery.
