Smith – Darrell Kelvin Smith of Brooks, beloved husband of Kathy Smith, passed away in Edmonton on Monday, August 28, 2017, surrounded by his family. Darrell was born in Brooks on July 13, 1954, to Raymond and Victoria Smith. He spent his younger years living in Rolling Hills then moved to Brooks in 1966. He met Kathy while attending Brooks Junior High and they married October 20 1973. They were blessed with three children, Brandy, Darcy and Jody. Darrell chose to follow in his Dad’s footsteps and he started up Blue Line Truck Service Ltd., in 1974. Over the years it grew, under his leadership and hard work with help from his family. Darrell enjoyed spending time with his family and friends – often there was a large group socializing with him at his shop. He enjoyed traveling, camping and his yearly fishing trips to the coast of B.C. with friends. He will forever be remembered for his laugh, sense of humor, his corny jokes, his love for his family and love for his pets. During his last years, when the effects of Pulmonary Fibrosis took his breath and strength away, he would amaze us with his inner strength, his concern for others and his will to live. Darrell was predeceased by his mother, Victoria Smith, sister Carol Hofmann, father-in-law Rudolph Koch, mother-in-law Ramona Koch and infant daughter Katherine. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Kathy (Koch), daughter Brandy(Shawn) Gleisner, son Darcy (Stephanie) and daughter Jody along with six grandchildren, who were very dear to his heart, Breanne, Aiden and Ava Gleisner and Hunter, Zander and Maylin Smith. He is also survived by his father, Raymond Smith, brothers Ken (Brigitte), Richard (Lisa), Lynden (Tonia), Byron (Janey), Brent (Sue), Garth (Starla), Elwood (Tammy) and Leighton (Lilianne) and brothers-in-law, Garry Hofmann, Harold Koch, Richard (Patricia) Koch, and sister-in-law Marilyn (Rockley) Fardoe, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Darrell will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Heritage Inn in Brooks.
