In Loving Memory
Edwin “Ted” Smallbones
July 1, 1960 — March 20, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Ted Smallbones announces his passing on March 20, 2025 in Cranbrook, BC.
Ted was born on July 1, 1960 in Calgary, Alberta to his parents Ed and Morlene Smallbones. They named him Edwin Craig, but soon they lovingly called him “Ted”.
Ted was raised in Brooks, Alberta and then Grand Forks, BC. He returned to Brooks following highschool graduation to continue his education at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). He completed the Welding Program and went on to become a Red Seal Welder.
Ted married Bonnie Blue in 1983 in Brooks and together they had two beautiful daughters, Tiffany and Stephany. Following the divorce, Ted continued to work as a welder for many years in Brooks and area. He was skilled at fabrication and problem solving. Ted’s disabilities brought him to Cranbrook where he spent his final years as an important part of our family.
Ted was a kind and gentle soul with an amazing connection to animals. Particularly dogs. A bit of a dog whisperer. He loved music and following hockey. An excellent cook – though very modest. He was most at home among nature’s beauty spending as much time as possible by the river or at the lake.
Ted was preceded in death by his dad Edwin James Smallbones, by his loving grandmother Jane Smallbones and by his grandfather James Smallbones.
Ted is survived by his mother Morlene Booth, children Tiffany (Richard) Smallbones and Stephany Smallbones, grandchildren Jacob and Tylia Belcourt, his siblings Susan (Joel) Zibin, Jim (Patricia) Smallbones and Jill Devine, his neices and nephews, Kim, Marina, Sarah, Thomas, Autumn and Charlie, and his grand nephews Gibson Howe and Leon Knuff, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
We would like to thank Dr. S. McDonald and Dr. P. Massel for their care. We would also like to thank the paramedics, nurses and EK regional Hospital. In respect of Ted’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. The family thanks everyone for their support during this difficult time. Donations can be made to BC Lung Association.
When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind.
