Skanderup – Verner Niels Jens Nielsen Skanderup beloved husband of Connie Skanderup of Brooks passed away peacefully in Brooks on July 3, 2009 at the age of 73 years. Verner was born in Tilley to Pastor Anton and Kristine Skanderup on August 14, 1935. His early years were spent living in Tilley, New Denmark, New Brunswick and Redvers, Saskatchewan. Verner married Ruth Margit Sorensen from Tilley on May 11, 1957. They lived and farmed in the Tilley area where they raised their 4 children. Verner was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. In the summer of 1991, Ruth passed away. He even travelled to the Ukraine on a short mission and continued his love of farming and carpentry. Then in 1994, Verner married Connie Gausman and moved to Brooks. They enjoyed many trips together, curling, gardening and evenings of crib in Millicent. He loved to spend time with family and friends over a cup of coffee. Verner was predeceased by his wife Ruth; parents Pastor Anton and Kristine Skanderup; brothers Verne and Milton; brother and sister-in-law Leo and Elsie Skanderup; sisters and brothers-in-law Ruth and Ben Colbens and Naomi and Ahlmann Olsen; brother-in-law Niels Eskesen and brother Clifford Skanderup. Verner is survived by his wife Connie; daughter Joyce and Harold Rust of Camrose; sons Stephen and Judy Skanderup of Tilley; Curtis and Tami Skanderup of Brooks and daughter Gloria and Terry Schroeder of Tilley; stepsons Nolan and Shelly Gausman of Brooks, Randy and Lisa Gausman of Calgary; grandchildren Annelise, Erik, Jenya and Naomi Rust; Matthew (Ralaina), Tyler (Dara), Douglas and Alexander Skanderup; Bobbie (Sterling) McWilliams, Lane (Eva) Beck and Laura (Curtis) Senior; Kendal, Braden, Avery and Mac Schroeder; Laura, Stephen and Meghan Gausman; Wesley Gausman and 10 great grandchildren; sister Agneta Eskesen; brother and sister-in-law Alvin and Martha Skanderup; sister-in-law Evelyn Skanderup and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm from Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooks. Rev. John Theiss officiated. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Verner’s grandchildren. Active Pallbearers were Matthew Skanderup, Tyler Skanderup, Braden Schroeder, Erik Rust, Stephen Gausman and Lane Beck. Internment followed at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Tilley.
