SKANDERUP (Gausman) – Constance (Connie) May Skanderup of Brooks, Alberta passed away on August 31, 2019 at the age of 94 years. Connie was born in Spalding, Saskatchewan to Arthur and Constance Mills on November 24, 1924. Her early years were spent around Spalding on the farm. She attended normal school and university to become a teacher. After four years of teaching, Connie married Vernon (Vern) Gausman of Pleasantdale, Saskatchewan on November 17, 1947. They moved to Rainier, Alberta where Connie taught for another four years and then six more years in Brooks, Alberta. It was in Brooks that they raised their two sons Nolan and Randy. Countless time was spent supporting their boys playing hockey and taking family trips. After 44 years of marriage, Vern passed away on April 30, 1991. In 1994, Connie married Verner Skanderup of Tilley, Alberta. They enjoyed 15 years of travelling, entertaining, curling, gardening, watching sports, and playing cards. Verner passed away on July 3, 2009.
Connie is survived by her sons Nolan (Shelly) Gausman and Randy (Jo Hansum) Gausman; daughter-in-law Lisa Gausman; stepchildren Joyce (Harold) Rust of Red Deer, Stephen (Judy) Skanderup of Tilley, Curtis (Tami) Skanderup of Brooks, Gloria (Terry) Schroeder of Tilley; grandchildren Laura (Colin) Castor, Stephen (Alyssa) Gausman, and Meghan (A.J.) Chartier and Wesley Gausman; Erik (Kelsey), Jenya, and Naomi Rust; Matthew, Tyler (Dara), Douglas, and Alexander Skanderup; Bobbie (Sterling) McWilliams, Lane (Eva) Beck and Laura (Curtis) Senior; Kendal, Braden (Jennifer), Avery and Mac Schroeder; 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; her sister Elaine Johnson; and sisters-in-laws Loraine Mills, Marjory Mills, and Jessie Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Connie was predeceased by husbands Vernon Gausman and Verner Skanderup, her parents Arthur and Constance Mills, her sisters Hope, Patience, Thelma, Geraldine, and Elizabeth, and brothers Hubert, Macleod, Benjamin, Bruce and Stewart, and granddaughter Annelise Rust.
Celebration of Life was held at Brooks United Church on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Janice Whitelock of Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were family and friends. Active Pallbearers were Nolan Gausman, Randy Gausman, Stephen Gausman, Wesley Gausman, Matthew Skanderup, Braden Schroeder, and Erik Rust.
