Siemens – Cornelius John Siemens of Brooks, beloved husband of Marie, passed away in Brooks on June 27th, 2007 at the age of 97 years. Born in Krasnapole, Siberia on April 8th, 1910 Cornelius immigrated to Canada in 1926, residing in Flowing Well, Saskatchewan. He attended Bible School in Herbert, Saskatchewan before moving to Duchess in 1928. Cornelius married Lois Stanton on May 22nd,
1932 in Duchess and resided in Duchess where they farmed. They moved to Eagle Hill, Alberta in 1940 and worked as a Minister in the Mennonite church and also continued his farming. After several moves they returned to the Duchess/Brooks area in 1978 where he retired. Lois passed away on May 23rd, 1991 and Cornelius married Mary Friessen on November 20th, 1993 and resided most of their married life in Brooks. Cornelius loved his Lord, family, gardening and nature. He will be remembered for his faith, his love for people, his honesty, hard work and his integrity. Cornelius was predeceased by a granddaughter and a great grandson. He is survived by his loving family, wife Marie of Brooks, 8 children David (Joanne) of Calgary, Jonathan (Marlene) of Lethbridge, Wilda Stauffer (Clarence) of Invermere, BC, Viona Dafoe (Ken) of Gleichen, Ethel Sheremeta (Morgan) of Kamloops, BC, Ralph (Lorena) of Brooks, Glenda Wityshyn of Coaldale and Cheryle Meshen of Medicine Hat; 21 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 6 siblings; Marie’s family and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 30th from the Duchess Mennonite Church. Rev. Alvin Penner officiated. Interment followed at Duchess Cemetery.
