Shanks –
Ruth Anne Shanks (née Madill) of Brooks, AB was called to rest on November 8, 2023, at the age of 89. She will be remembered with love by her husband William [Bill] Shanks of 72 years; two sons Doug (Bente) and Dale (Heather), four grandchildren; Darcy (Amanda), Nicole (Trent), Ryan and Darryl. Twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Grace (Fred) Dube as well as many special nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by parents George and Jane Madill, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Ruth was born in Elrose SK and grew up in Rolling Hills, AB where she met and on August 26, 1951, married the love of her life Bill. They farmed in Rolling Hills until 1957 when they moved to Tilley and bought their farm in 1960. Ruth worked in the home and on the family farm. She was an avid quilter and made beautiful creations sought by many. Ruth loved to play cards and together with Bill had many wonderful friends. In later years, they spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ. They retired from the farm in 2015 to Newbrook Lodge in Brooks, AB. Ruth fiercely loved her family and cherished her friends whom she enjoyed spending as much time with as possible. She was kind and generous and made friends easily with her gentle way. She will be missed dearly. A special thank you to Gloria and Stephanie. Also, to Homecare and staff at Newbrook Lodge and at the Brooks Health Centre Long Term Care. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 17th at 11:00 AM from the Brooks United Church. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
