SEEFELDT – Carl Edward Seefeldt was born November 2nd, 1921 in Cessford, AB. and passed away unexpectedly in his home in Rossland, B.C. on Saturday, April 21, 2007.
Dad was raised on his parents’ homestead near Cessford. He attended school there and joined the armed services in 1941. He served in the RCAF and the Royal Navy. He received his commission, became a pilot, and was stationed in England for the latter part of WWII. He attended NAIT in Calgary and took training in aircraft mechanics following the war.
Dad married Patricia Carolyn Champion-Taylor in 1948. They moved to Rossland, where they raised their four children. From that time until his retirement, he worked at Cominco, completing his career as an operator in the acid plant/roaster. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14 in Rossland.
He is survived by his children Ron (Shipra), Karen (George) Cappelletto and Robin (Bob Todd); grandchildren Gregory, Anjali, Jesse, Joel and Kelly; his brother Fred (Elsie), sisters Lola Soderberg and Gwen (Jack) Cundy, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by is parents, Nancy and Charlie, sister Betty and brother-in-law Morgan Conaty, son Gary, brother-in-law Al Soderberg and nephew John Seefeldt.
Our dad was an officer and a gentleman. He was kind, fair and generous to those in need. He had a sharp wit and was a very highly self-educated man. He read copiously and enjoyed his daily crosswords. He also enjoyed curling and golfing well into retirement, and travelling, music, poetry and watching sports. He loved cooking, and introduced many culinary delights to our family, which inevitably became part of the Seefeldt traditions. He took exceptional pride in his dill pickles, which were always made with local spring water and were always superb. Beyond all else, he loved his family dearly and cherished his friends, and times spent with both.
A service of remembrance was held on Saturday, April 28th at 1:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rossland. Captain Michael Hayes of the Salvation Army officiated.
Bill Clark and Blaine Krist of Personal Alternative Funeral Services were entrusted with arrangements.
