It is with profound sadness that the family of Douglas Cameron Schonhofer of Buffalo, Alberta announce his passing following a life long battle with diabetes and recently a short but courageous battle with chronic kidney disease. Doug passed away on Wednesday, July 18th, 2007 at the age of 41 years. Doug leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Simon and Marg Schonhofer of Buffalo; two brothers, Richard of Buffalo and his son, Zachary (Sharon) of Redcliff and Kevin (Laurie) of Port Moody, British Columbia and their children, Cole and Haley; one sister, Carmen (Kevin) Stopanski of Jenner and their children, Brock, Josh and Chad; his very special and much loved friend and companion, Kathryn Knutson of Iddesleigh; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Doug was born on November 26th, 1965 in Calgary, Alberta. He moved to Buffalo with his parents in 1969 where he grew up on the ranch and attended Buffalo School from Grades 1 through 9. He graduated from Medicine Hat High School in 1983. Following that he worked on the ranch with his brother and his father until he took a job driving water truck for Richardson Brothers Construction during the paving of Highway 555 from Jenner to Buffalo. From there Doug went to work for Cee Gee construction running heavy equipment and building roads all over the province. He returned to the ranch in 1995 where he worked and resided until his passing. Despite his size, Doug was a ‘Skinner’ to the core. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of life and family, his practical jokes, and his funny little laugh. The Funeral Service will be held in Victory Lutheran Church, 2793 Southview Drive SE, Medicine Hat, on Tuesday, July 31st, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Shane Andrus officiating.
