SCHNEIDER – Irene (nee Wenzel) Schneider passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2003 at the Brooks Health Centre at the age of 73 years. Born in Maple Creek, SK to Edwin and Nora Wenzel, she moved to Cassils where she completed her schooling. Irene then moved to Brooks where she married Gene in 1950 and together they built a life that revolved around their family and friends. She will be remembered by many as a dedicated ‘hockey mom’ to her sons and their team mates during their many years of involvement in minor hockey. Irene was also a long-term member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, where she served on the executive. Her dedication to the community was evident in her willingness to serve wherever and whenever she could. Irene was predeceased by Gene, her loving husband of 47 years, sister Alma Schnieder, 2 brothers Edgar Wenzel and Ford Kerr. She leaves to cherish her memory her 5 children, Monty (Yolande) and Teresa (John Sewall) of Calgary, Tim (Carole) of Stettler, Ken of Brooks and Randy of Vancouver, BC; grandchildren, Nicole Sewall, Robyn Jacobie, Leah, Steven and Larissa Schneider as well a numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 17th from the Brooks United Church. Rev. George Edmonds officiating. Inurnment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
