Theodore John Schmidt (Ted) passed on to glory Sunday, March 21, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 74. Ted was born on November 13, 1946 in Chilliwack, BC to Anna and John Schmidt. He was the youngest of 5 siblings. He grew up in Yarrow, BC and loved to be surrounded by the mountains.
Ted met the love of his life, Dorothy Willms, in Vancouver, BC and they were married in Bassano, AB, July 8, 1967.
In 1974, Ted and Dorothy moved their growing family to Brooks, AB where he continued to build many houses throughout his lifetime. Ted worked as a carpenter in his younger years and then later retrained to become a draftsman for Ducks Unlimited.
Ted loved to spend time with family and friends and was very active in his local church, the Brooks Evangelical Free Church and he was earlier a charter member of the Brooks Baptist Church. He had many hobbies such as skiing, fishing, hiking, camping, coffee with friends at A&W, and was always available to lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved southern gospel music and enjoyed trips to see live shows.
Ted was predeceased by both his parents (Anna and John), his older sister and her husband (Lydia and John Schmidt), and his older brother and his wife (Ben and Helena Schmidt). He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, brothers Jake (Agnes) and Helmut (Betty), his son Michael (Carol), and daughter Leanne Jacobson (Ken). He leaves behind his four beloved granddaughters Kira Schmidt, Whitney Schmidt, Ceanna Chow and Morgan Jacobson. Family Services were held on March 27, 2021. The Service recording will be available on Ted’s Memorial page at www.thomsfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers (due to allergies), the family prefers donations be made to Southern Alberta Bible Camp (http://www.sabc.ca) or Ducks Unlimited (http://www.ducks.ca) in memory of Ted.
