Schaffer – It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Viola Esther Schaffer of Brooks, beloved wife of the late Bill Schaffer, in Brooks on Thursday, July 21st, 2022 at the age of 100 years. Viola was called to the Lord surrounded by her family and special caregivers at Sunrise Gardens. She was born on April 8th, 1922, in Medicine Hat, Alberta and spent her early years in the Schuller District. Viola met William Schaffer on a trip to Bassano and fell in love. They married on December 14th, 1941. The couple welcomed their first child, Evelyn, followed by Sharon, Harvey, and Janice. They settled in Brooks to raise their family. Viola will be remembered for her love of knitting, gardening, music, sewing, baking, fishing, Vacation Bible School and most of all for her love of family and the Lord. Viola was predeceased by her husband Bill; daughter Evelyn; son-in-law, Herb and great-grandson, Justin. She is lovingly remembered by Dale (Gladis) Philpott; Alan (Amanda) Philpott and their children Jonathan, Jared, Stuart and Austin; Glen (Carol) Philpott and their children Nicole and Jeremy; Rhonda (Colin) McCaig and their children Megan, Ashley and Cody; Kathryn Philpott and Jessica Philpott; Sharon Hill; Michelle (Nat) Curry; Andrea (Chad) Vestby and their children Timothy, Amos, Hyram, Ethan, Chloe and Janiece; Harvey (Val) Schaffer; Shelly Schaffer; Cindy (Kevin) Schaffer and their children Shineese, Shaycee and Talon; Scott (DoniRae) Schaffer and their children Rylan and Braelynn; Jan Wetteskind; Kari (Craig) Smit and their children Nathan and Janelle; Kevin (Tricia) Wetteskind and their children Damon, Aleece, Ella and Taggart as well as numerous great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 30th at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Rev. Ken Wells officiating. Interment to follow in Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Viola, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Brooks and District Health Foundation, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3, earmarked for new mothers and infant care.
