Schaffer – Robert (Bob) John Schaffer of Bassano, passed away in Brooks on Monday, October 23rd, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Bob was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia on April 24th, 1932, the second son of Jacob and Kathleen Schaffer and received his schooling in Duchess. The family moved to a farm in Three Hills, Alberta, when Bob was a young man, at which time he ran a bulk fuel station. In 1953, the family moved to Bassano, where Bob started his painting career. In 1968, he married Beatrice Perry and resided in Bassano. Bob opened Schaffer Paint and Supplies in Bassano and was known for his expertise. He loved his family, baseball, hockey, auctions, boxing, crib, potlucks, sparkling apple juice, bowling and his cats. Bob was well known at the Senior’s Drop-In Centre in Bassano, where he loved to play shuffle board and socialize. Bob was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Kathleen; step-mother Frieda; siblings, Cliff Schaffer, Ted Schaffer, Florence McCoomb and Bill Schaffer; sisters-in-law, Harvene Schaffer and Bea Schaffer and brothers-in-law Gerald McCoomb and Andy Suchla. He is survived by his brother, Jake (Margaret) Schaffer; sister Lillian Suchla; sister-in-law Kay Schaffer and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, October 28th at 2:00 PM from Bassano Golf and Curling Recreation Complex. Interment followed Bassano Cemetery. In memory of Bob, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Playfair Lodge, Comfort Fund, Box 200, Bassano, Alberta T0J 0B0.
