SAYERS, Robert John (Bob)
June 9, 1933 – St. Catherine’s, Ontario
February 26, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
We are deeply saddened to announce that Robert (Bob) Sayers, beloved husband of the late Vernice Sayers, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the age of 86 years due to complications of dementia.
Bob was born in St. Catherine’s, ON, where he lived until he joined the Army in 1951. Bob was a paratrooper, having many adventures. While stationed in Calgary he met Vernice, fell in love and was married in July of 1955. Bob worked for the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) as a journeyman painter and later as a journeyman refrigeration mechanic. After retiring from the CBE Bob moved to the family cottage at Lake Newell, AB. He and Vernice built their dream home on the lake where they spent twenty-six years of retirement. Many fun family gatherings were held at the lake. Bob loved his music and he made the best caesars, enjoyed by many. In December of 2017 Bob and Venice moved back to Calgary due to health issues and to be closer to family. At age 86 Bob wanted to skydive one more time which he did with son Pat and four grandchildren. A thrilling adventure had by all.
Bob is survived by his children, Wendy Osborne (Keith) of Lake Country, BC, Patrick Sayers (Debbie) of Calgary, AB, Grant Sayers (Sherry) of Medicine Hat, AB, and Michael Sayers (Debbie) of Calgary, AB; six grandchildren, Megan Chin (Colin), Kendra, Mitchell, Sean, Ryan and Haley Sayers; and two great-grandchildren Naomi and Luke Chin.
Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Vernice Sayers, and his granddaughter Miranda Chagnon (nee Osborne).
A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Bob’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
