Saunders – Joyce Marjorie Saunders passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on December 6th, 2013 in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 94 years. Joyce was born on February 7th, 1919 in Bassano, AB. Joyce was active in her community of Brooks as a member of the Anglican Church and Eastern Star. She was proud to be a nurse and had a large capacity for loving and caring for others. Mum had a great sense of humor and a joyful zest for life that impacted us all. She especially enjoyed teaching highland dancing for many years. “Our Mum was an inspiration to all who knew her, a very special lady”. She was predeceased by her husband Stan of 61 years, her sisters Jean and Mildred and her mum and dad, Norah and Frank Berry. Joyce will be greatly missed by her children: George Saunders and his wife Marilyn of Athabasca and their children Scott (Kelly) Saunders, Dalton, Whitney and Jaxson and Heather Saunders; Jean Russell and her husband Richard of Vegreville and their children Kent (Lucie) Russell and Bella and Lexie, Marcie (Roy) Lebeau and Jesse (Jocelyn), Alycia and Matthew; Marj Keinick and her husband Wilf of Brooks and their children Lee (Terri) Keinick, Gabe and Sophie; Adam (Nicole) Keinick, Lily and Ella; Joe (Lacey) Keinick and Tucker, as well as nieces and nephews and many friends. We would like to thank the staff at River Ridge Seniors Community in St. Albert for giving Mum such a wonderful quality of life for the last 5 years. To the loving and understanding staffs at The Sturgeon Hospital and the Palliative Care unit at the Edmonton General, we thank you for the encouraging care of our mum and grandma. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held Saturday, December 14th at 2:00 PM from St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Brooks. Rev. Ken Wells officiating. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marilyn Saunders, Richard Russell and Wilf Keinick. Active Pallbearers will be Kent Russell, Marcie Lebeau, Scott Saunders, Heather Saunders, Lee Keinick, Adam Keinick and Joe Keinick.
