Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Hector Wilfred Rose, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Bow Valley Manor, Calgary on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the age of 83 years.
Hector was born in Lethbridge, AB on June 7, 1931 and grew up on a farm near Granum, AB, and after graduating with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and Ministry from Knox College, he taught in Bassano and ministered simultaneously in the towns of Bassano and Gem. He met and married his wife Donna (Millar) in Calgary, AB. They raised their five children in Bassano, and he was very proud of them all. In the later years, Hector ministered in Calgary and Orkney, AB. He was a proud member of the Masons, Shriners, Eastern Star, Kinsmen, Cub Scouts, Presbytery and an RCMP Chaplain. Hector is best known for his dedication and energy towards his congregations, his community and his family.
Hector is survived by his wife Donna; his children and their spouses Lochie and Coral, Doug and Cindy, Peggy, Tom and Simone, Scott and Leah; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Jean (Chuck) Thomas and Eleanor (Bill) Sherman; sister-in-law Sandy (David) Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Lisbeth (nee Neufeld), father Hector, brother David and nephew Jim Sherman.
Funeral Services were held at Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church (4612 Varsity Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday May 21 at 2:00 p.m. A family graveside service took place on Friday, May 22nd at Bassano Cemetery.
