Rasmussen – It is with the deepest sadness and the most love our family announces the passing of Kelly (Jensen) Rasmussen. Kelly passed peacefully with the love of so many on Aug 1st, 2023 at the age of 54 after a courageous battle with cancer. Kelly was born July 3rd, 1969 in Calgary and after moving around for a while the family settled down in Brooks. Kelly spent most of her childhood in Brooks growing up with her sister Linda and her parents Martin & Margaret. Kelly met her husband Brent in 1987 and they were married in 1991 and welcomed their first baby girl in November of that year, Jennifer. They welcomed their second baby girl in August of 1996, Hailey. They have raised the girls on the farm outside of Brooks and Kelly taught them how to be strong and independent women which shows in them today. Kelly worked for AFSC in Brooks for 15 years where she got to meet and interact with the county’s farming community and they became a big part of her life. For the last 9 she has worked at the Canadian Cocoon Testing Centre and helping leafcutter bee producers in the Country. She took great pride in not only her work but her relationships with all of the producers that came to see her every winter. She loved to be a social butterfly and very rarely missed a Wing Wednesday with her friends or a warm day on the golf course. Her favorite days were when both girls were home, now with their husbands, playing games and laughing. Her fondest memories are of the family travelling to various warm destinations for the holidays, spending every and all parts of the year driving the girls around for an assortment of sports tournaments and never missing a golf tournament. For the last seven months her days were spent hanging out with her grandson Macklin and planning Hailey’s wedding which she was determined to attend on July 29th, and she did. Kelly was predeceased by her father Martin Jensen and her mother in law Georganne Rasmussen. She is survived by her husband Brent; daughters, Jennifer Fay (Travis) and Hailey Merrill (Kacen); mother Margaret Jensen; sister Linda Johnson (Tony); nieces Chloe Elford (Travis), Tori Haaf (Dave), Madison Johnson (Adam); father in law, Svend Rasmussen (Joan); sister in law, Carolyn (Albert) Henrickson; nephew, Harvey Henrickson and most recently her grandson, Macklin Fay. She would not have had such a glorious life without her many wonderful friends who were more like family to her. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family and friends. A private family memorial will be held at the farm and a public celebration of life will be held at a later date. In Memory of Kelly, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to either the Brooks and District Health Foundation, 440 – 3rd Street, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3 or Canadian Cancer Society, 200, 235 Manning Road NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 2P5.
