    Piper – Lilian Florence Piper of Brooks, beloved wife of the late Joseph Piper, passed away in Brooks on Saturday, July 25th, 2015 at the age of 98 years. Lilian was born to Alfred and Agnes Watkins on August 21st, 1916 in Subbrook, Wales. She immigrated to Canada with her parents and arrived in Brooks on April 13th, 1928. Upon arriving in the area, her parents were employed by Jody Cooper, a pioneer farmer of the Rainier District. Lilian’s parents purchased farmland in the Kitsim (Rainier) district on March 27th, 1929. Lilian married Joseph Piper in 1946 and they continued to farm with Lilian’s parents until 1964, when they took over the farm. Lilian and Joseph purchased a house in Brooks in the mid 1980s and Lilian lived there until she was 93 years old. She then moved into the Newbrook Lodge, where she joined some of her old friends and made many new ones. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Staff and Doctors of the Newbrook Lodge, Brooks Health Centre and Long Term Care. Lilian was predeceased by her husband Joseph and her granddaughter Cheryl. She is survived by her children, daughter Anne (David) McKenzie of Medicine Hat; sons, Alfred (Jackie) Piper of Duchess, Edward (Colleen) Piper of Rainier, and Walter (Debbie) Piper of Duchess; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6th at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Rev. George Edmonds officiating. Interment to follow at Rainier Cemetery.
