How do we tell the world about the vivacious gem that we have all lost? Jacquelyn Ann Penner (nee Schelske) passed away April 2, 2017 and we’re gonna’ miss her big time and don’t know how we’ll manage without her. She was an incredible sister, friend, leader, teacher, patron of the arts and mentor. She loved life and people and was proud of her students, colleagues and family. Jacquelyn was with Medicine Hat College for 25 years, beginning as an instructor at the Brooks campus, later in Medicine Hat becoming Dean of Business in 2004. Growing the business program, building relationships in the community and supporting the creation of the Entrepreneurial Development Centre (EDC) are among her many accomplishments. She was also the driving force behind the creation of Mount Royal University Bachelor of Business Administration program at the college as well as the annual “Connecting Students to Business” dinner. She has also served as the chair of the Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce, director of the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta, chair of the Community Futures Board plus board member of the Medalta Society and member of the Rotary Club. Jacquelyn was recognized for her accomplishments and contributions to the community, receiving the Women in Business 2013 Inspire Award and was named one of the 50 Most Influential People 2013 by Alberta Venture magazine. Jacquelyn was predeceased by her parents, Molly (nee Elliott) and Ephraim Schelske of Bassano. She will be sorely missed by her siblings, Marie Schelske, Sheila and Brian Beer, Cara Schelske, Phyllis and Ken Riley, Bruce and Wendy Schelske, Betty Schelske, John Schelske and Suzanne Walker, Avis Schelske and Tom Hochman, plus many devoted nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
