Olson – It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend, Allan (Al) Olson. Al passed away at the Brooks Health Centre on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, at the age of 64, with his sense of humour not impaired, after being diagnosed with Cancer in July of 2023.  Al was born, raised and worked his entire life in Brooks, Alberta, until he retired and moved to Vancouver Island. He started his working career at Allied in 1974 and went on to work at the EID in March of 1982, retiring from there in 2014. Al was an avid hunter and was involved in the Brooks Fish and Game Association for many years. He enjoyed playing fiddle, woodworking, camping, fishing, quadding, dirt biking and riding his Harley, where he made friends from coast to coast. Allan and Laurie especially enjoyed spending many winter months on the beaches in Mexico. In his 27 years of sobriety, everywhere Allan traveled, he made many lifelong friends that became a big part of his extended family.  In his retirement he took up gardening, spending many hours tending to his flowers, grapes, cherries, strawberries, and kiwis, his own little fruit orchard. He recently took up salmon fishing, entertaining anyone who came out to the island. Allan was very proud of his family and valued them above all else. His generosity and kindness will be greatly missed. Al was predeceased by his son, Andy Olson and parents Harold and Alice Olson. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Laurie; son, Daniel (Nicole) Olson, and their daughters Jordynn and Clara; daughter, Jessica (Mike) MacDougall, and their children Lanah and Finn; brother, Merlin (Marilyn) Olson, his Seester’s and Brothers-in-law, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces as well as his many, many friends. A private family service will be held at the Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Allan, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to a charity of choice.
