Murakami – Chiyoko Murakami passed peacefully into the arms of her Saviour Jesus on Friday, March 15th, 2024 at 93 years of age, truly an amazing Spirit-filled woman! Chiyoko was born in Japan on October 4th, 1930, and was there behind a mountain making artillery when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. She left Japan and worked in Paris, France as a secretary in the French embassy. Chiyoko came to Canada on a French passport and became one of the first women to fly as a commercial pilot. She came west and was in Castlegar, BC when she was asked to come to Brooks and open a flight school. CM Flight Services was opened at the Brooks Airport and many students young and old did touch and goes until it was announced “You’re ready to solo, go on you can do it”. She was a very good instructor. She had other skills cooking authentic Japanese cuisine and playing Beethoven on her piano amongst them. Chiko moved into the Newbrook Lodge and then to Sunrise Gardens where she resided until her passing. She is survived by a brother Mitsuaki and his wife Yoko, a nephew and niece all of Japan. We would like to thank Doctor Coetzee and Nurses (Thea)❤️ also the staff at Sunrise Gardens for making Chiko’s last years comfortable and happy. A Celebration of Chiko’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will be held at Brooks Cemetery.

    Fly safe Chiko
