    Mokelky – Big John Mokelky of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023 in Medicine Hat at the age of 84 years. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy “Pete” Mokelky, sons, Randy (Jackie), Brian (Shauna) and Tim (Glenna) and daughter Wendy (Tom) Hawes, as well as 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was born on September 3rd, 1938 in Waskada, Manitoba, the last survivor of 12 siblings. John and Dorothy moved all over Saskatchewan working in the oil patch finally settling in Estevan, Saskatchewan, until 1973 when they moved to Brooks. John made his legacy in the oil patch and retired from Big John’s Tong Service in 1991 after 23 years. John and Pete moved to Medicine Hat in 2012 and enjoyed living in their condo. John enjoyed golfing, curling, playing cards and watching wrestling, usually while “having a howdy”. He was proud of his family and loved them all dearly, including his little dog Rocky. Dad’s words of advice to us were “Keep your stick on the ice”. In memory of John, if friends desire, memorial tributes maybe made directly to either, Alberta Children’s Hospital, 28 Oki Drive NW, Calgary, Alberta   T3B 6A8 or Brooks Animal Protection Services (BAPS), Box 86, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1B2. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 4th at 1:00 PM at Smith Memorial Chapel. Mr. Keston Mokelky officiating. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery.
