MacLinden – Patrick Joseph MacLinden, aged 86, passed away on Thursday November 7th, 2019, after a very short stay at the Brooks Health Centre.  He enjoyed good health and independence all his days.  He was born September 14th, 1933 in Belmullet Comayo, Ireland, which was a surprise to some of his family as we had always believed he was Scottish.  History from the time is bit questionable, but to the best of our knowledge his family struggled and due to poverty Pat was placed in Catholic orphanage at an early age.  Later, it is believed he lied about his age to start a new life in Canada as a farm labourer.  He moved to the Nanton, Alberta area after arriving in Canada and that is where, in 1962, he met and later married, Marjorie Lloyd Dwelle (Nanny).  They moved to Calgary and for many years enjoyed living in the Amy Lorne Trailer Park, which was a tight knit community.  During this time, Pat worked as a Commissionaire and he was very proud to wear the uniform and serve his community.  In 1990, Nanny and “Gramps”, as he was affectionately referred to, relocated to Wardlow, Alberta to live close to family and embrace rural life.  He lived in Wardlow, until health concerns emerged and he moved to Orchard Manor in Brooks, Alberta.  There he found a supportive community of friends and staff and enjoyed excellent quality of life until his end.  Pat’s interests involved war movies, western movies, going for walks, spending time with dogs, going for lunch visits with family and friends, and a good cup of piping hot black coffee.  Pat MacLinden is survived by his stepchildren and step grandchildren: Timothy Dwelle (Stephen Dwelle, Terry Dwelle, and Glynnis Gray and children), Trudy Seely (husband Josh Seely, Clayton and Joanne Seely and children, Cameron Seely and child, Coralea and Cory Tanghe and children), Jean Lavoie (husband John Lavoie, Melissa and Ken Shand and children, Kallie Lavoie and Mark Pierzchala and children), as well as special friends Helen Schottenbauer, Sandean Lanz, Hazel Lutz, and Hilda Bunney.  He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie, and infant grandson, Jason Seely.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 29th at 2:00 PM from the Heritage Inn and Convention Centre.  In memory of Pat, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of choice.
