Lewis – Denis Wayne Lewis of Bassano, beloved husband of Kaye Lewis, passed away peacefully in Bassano, on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023, at the age of 79 years. Denis was born on October 16th, 1943 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan to Sidney and Rena Lewis. He grew up on a farm just outside of Sovereign but, in the winter months, the family lived in town. Denis attended Balfour Tech in Regina, Saskatchewan, where he earned his Drafting Certificate. On April 16th, 1966, Denis married Kaye Chamney in Carlyle, Saskatchewan, becoming a devoted husband to Kaye and later a loving father and grandfather. After getting married, Denis and Kaye lived in Regina and then moved to Calgary in 1971. In Calgary, he worked for Investors Group for 30+ years as a Certified Real Estate Appraiser. He spent a great deal of time volunteering for youth sports organizations, he was a coach, manager, and worked on the Board of Directors for many different teams and organizations including North Calgary Buffalo Athletic Association, Northwest Little League, Lacrosse and also worked with Calgary Minor Hockey. Denis and many other parents spent many hours building the Brentwood Arena. In 2000, Denis and Kaye moved to Bassano, where he enjoyed curling, hockey, water skiing, golf and continued volunteering. Denis leaves behind a legacy of selfless hard work and honesty. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Bassano Health Centre and the Playfair Lodge, Bassano for everything they have done for Denis and his family. Denis was predeceased by granddaughters, Aimee and Alisha and parents Sidney and Rena Lewis. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Kaye; sons, Derek (Christine) and Darryl (Marcie); grandsons, Aaron, Aiden, and Riley and numerous other family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 29th at 1:00 PM from Bassano Cemetery. In memory of Denis, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Alberta Children’s Hospital, 28 Oki Drive NW, Calgary, Alberta T3B 6A8.
