Levie – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, Marlene Ann Levie, on March 29, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Marlene was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba, on May 24, 1937, the eldest daughter of Martin and Florence Holmes’ eight children. She grew up as many did in those days, on the homesteads and in the small farming communities of the vast Canadian prairies such as Endeavour, Saskatchewan, through the hot summers and cold winters, in a large family that had to make the most of the resources around them to survive as so many of the same families did in those times. After answering a Help Wanted ad and receiving a bus ticket and five dollars, Marlene arrived in the Brooks area in the early 1950’s for her first job as a cook at a farm near Bassano. It was during her early years in Alberta that she met a young man named Rueben Levie and they were married on July 25, 1956 in Brooks. The young couple and their growing family also spent time in other communities such as Lacombe, Alberta, and Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. With the unexpected tragedy of losing Rueben in 1963, Marlene had to soldier on and fill the role of both parents, going to work to provide while raising her six young children. Times were tough, but Marlene will be remembered for doing all that should could to give her children the most that she could. She loved her children dearly. Marlene spent many years working for various businesses in Brooks and serving her community at such places like the Telstar, Willow Pines, Oriental Garden, and custodial work at the office building of Johnson, Morris, Hunter & Co. along with various residences in town. She was industrious by nature, very resourceful with many learned talents and skills that allowed her to support her large family in many ways. With a keen eye for fashion and style, Marlene will be remembered for always looking sharp, keeping an immaculate home, tending a beautifully landscaped yard for which she was recognized as a runner-up for Communities in Bloom, and being a long-time member of the Brooks community. Marlene was predeceased by her parents, four brothers: Marvin, Alfred, Bert, Marlowe, one sister: Joanne, her husband: Rueben, and two children: Arlene Boseley and Wade Levie. She is survived by her sister, Florene and brother, Arnold. Four children: Dean (Pam) Levie, Randy (Boni) Levie, Charlene (Jean) Allain and Rob Levie. 10 grandchildren: James Boseley, Jackie Haubrick, Kristy Levie, Kandis Hummel, Taylor Allain, Jordan Allain, Brennan Levie, Kelson Levie, Colton Levie and Jenna Levie, along with their significant others. 14 great-grandchildren: Morgan and Cole Jones, Adriana and Jada Haubrick, Hudson and Makinlee Hummel, Chloe, Connor, Tripp and Daniel Allain, Hunter and Rylee Allain, and Archer and Everly Levie, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family wishes to extend its sincere gratitude and many thanks to all the staff at Brooks Health Centre Long Term Care, Orchard Manor and Newbrook Lodge for all of their care and support for Marlene during her stays at these facilities. A special thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Dr. Thomson, who provided Marlene with such amazing care. In memory of Marlene, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Canadian Diabetes Association, 1510 2nd Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta   T1J 0G1. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

You will be truly missed and never forgotten. Love you always and forever!
