LASANTE – Fritz Lasante 1943-2022
Fritz was a Saskatchewan boy. Born on September 21, 1943 in Pontiex, Saskatchewan, to Madeliene and Alfred Lasante, he was the youngest of 13 children. He grew up on the Prairie, thriving and being nurtured by a witty and fun loving family. At the age of 11 he moved with his family to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan where he played sports, attended school and made notorious memories with his wide group of friends. At age 15 he headed to Alberta and sought work with Precision Drilling Company, as a lease hand. He would later say that he looked like a 12 year old kid, but it did not deter him. He would spend the next 60 years working his way to the top in the oil patch – becoming one of the youngest drillers and tool pushes in the patch. His quick wit, intelligence, and relentless work ethic along with a love for fun filled parties, made him a well known and much loved character in the oil business. In 1978 he settled in Brooks, Alberta and along with business partners, he formed Sundown Well Service, Ltd., a service rig company. In the early 1990s the company sold and Fritz went on the work as an oilfield consultant until 2017. Fritz loved his time with the men he worked with, the many friends he made during his time in the oil patch and he loved the work. Retirement did not set well with this Saskatchewan boy.
Fritz had many interests- sports, rodeo, golf, and in later years, The Brooks Bandits, watching his favourite, Cale Makar, play for the Colorado Avalanches, and attending his Grandkid’s many sporting events.
Family was of great importance to Fritz. He had five children- Tammy, Shannon, Amber, Alicia and Angel. His children and his grandchildren were a great source of love and joy and pride for him. He leaves to mourn him, his wife, Barbara, daughters Amber, Alicia and Angel, five siblings- Corrine, Agnes, Louise, Albert and John, 10 beloved grandchildren, his dear Mumsy Wood, the Wood family, a huge number of nieces and nephews, brothers and sister in – laws, and many friends. A small family gathering was held on February 19 and donations to the Brooks Food Bank or BAPS can be gifted in his memory.
