KLASSEN – Cornelius Klassen

Klassen – Cornelius Klassen, the beloved husband to Zelma Klassen of 61 years, went to be with our Lord and Saviour on April 30, 2021 at the age of 91. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Zelma; his sons, Ken (Alva) and Les (Lina); and his grandchildren, Carmen, Graham (Meghan), Logan, Mark, Kameron, and one great grandchild Ellis. He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. Cornelius was born February 14, 1930 in Watrous, Saskatchewan. He moved to Rosemary, Alberta in 1948 to a piece of land that was purchased by his father. It was on this piece of land that Cornelius grew up farming with his brothers alongside his father. In 1950, his family began a dairy operation that was later turned into the seed cleaning and selling plant that he ran for over fifty years. This plant still serves the farmers of Cornelius’ community to this day. While Cornelius greatly enjoyed serving his community through seed cleaning and selling, his greatest joy was his relationship with Jesus Christ. He was baptized at the age of 18 and was very active in the Rosemary Mennonite Church throughout his life. He was involved in teaching Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and was an active member of the church council for many years. One of his favorite past times was researching different topics of faith for his own curiosity and understanding. Cornelius loved having conversations with others about his faith and the sacrifices that others had made on behalf of the gospel in other countries. At the age of 89, Cornelius together with his wife, Zelma, moved to the Newbrook lodge in Brooks, Alberta. It was shortly after this move, that Cornelius began to struggle with his health and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Two years after dealing with this diagnosis, Cornelius peacefully slipped into the arms of his Lord. A Private Family Service will be held at the Rosemary Mennonite Church. Rev. Lorne Willms officiating. Interment at the Rosemary Cemetery.
