Wingrove – Joseph Edward Wingrove of Brooks, passed away in Brooks on October 4th, 2006 at the age of 95 years. Born on July 4th, 1911 in Coquitlam B.C. where his family was one of the original homesteaders. At age 15 his first job was working in a bank, but his passion in life was farming and breeding purebred Holstein cows, so banking did not last long. During the depression Joseph made extra money as a professional wrestler.
During the 40’s and 50’s he was the farm supervisor for Essondale Farms, a B.C. Government experimental farm at Port Coquitlam. Joseph ran the first milk pasteurizing plant in B.C. and was Treasurer for the B.C. Holstein Branch from 1951-1954 as well as a B.C. Milk Tester. He ranched outside of Ashcroft before moving to Creston in 1965 where he started his own dairy at the age of 55. In 1976 Joseph his wife Violet, his son Mark and Mark’s wife Marlene moved north of Brooks and started another dairy farm. In 1994 he moved to Brooks and lived at Orchid Manor until his passing. Joseph was predeceased by his wife Violet Olive Wingrove October 12th, 1982, grandson Devin Wingrove May 24th, 1999, parents, 3 sisters and a brother. He is survived by his son Cameron and wife Phyllis, their children Colin and Brook and great grandchildren Max and Ethan all of Port Coquitlam; daughter Joanne and her husband John Parker, their children Jesse and Dallas Doherty, Carson Parker and Jesse’s daughter Tayin Libke of Brooks; son Mark and his wife Marlene and their children Lindsay and Luke of Medicine Hat.
