Jones- Gwendolyn Rose Jones of Brooks, beloved wife of Brian Jones, passed away unexpectedly in Medicine Hat, Alberta on Wednesday, December 13th, 2023 at the age of 73. Gwen was born on May 21st 1950 in Whitemouth, Manitoba to Irvin and Leokadja (Kay) Grabke. She spent her younger and teen years in Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba where most of her summers were spent on the water. She was very involved in the water skiing club and loved camping at Elbow Lake with the family. Gwen worked for the Royal Canadian Legion in Edmonton (Kingsway) for many years then she was a camp cook for over 20 years where she met the love of her life, Brian and her retirement years were spent keeping Brian on the straight and narrow. Gwen was an amazing baker and so deeply treasured baking with the great grandchildren. She shared her love of country music with Brian especially concerts and Big Valley Jamboree where she attended for over 30 years. She was a busy Nana attending hockey games, concerts and dance recitals every chance she could. She was an active and long time member of CFCW Country Club, and she had a deep love of animals, especially dogs. Members of Brooks and Thorsby will fondly remember Gwen for her welcoming smile when you saw the open sign at Jonesville – the favorite past time of her and Brian. Everyone left there with a story, a smile and the children usually a toy compliments of Gwen. Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Irv and Kay; brothers, Dan and Murray and her two infant sons Ricky and Dwayne. She is survived by her loving husband Brian, daughter Cassandra (Glen) Borth; grandsons, David Beaton (Frankie), Bryce Scherer and her great grandson Oliver (Ollie). She will be fondly remembered and mourned by her family through marriage; son Jim (Lisa) Jones, daughter Tammie (Gary) Schmaltz, and son Jody (April) Jones, grandchildren, Lauren (Tyler), Jordan (Ashley), Austin, Mark, Haley, Skyler (Brenda), Tamara and Tina (Jaden); great grandchildren, Easton, Aria, Greyson, Bellamy, Scarlett, Emily, Zoey, Quinn and Riley along with her sisters Deb (Darcy) Hamer and Faye (Dale) Grabke along with numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews and so many dear friend. Gwen was loved by all. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
