    Janko – Albin (Albie) Frank Janko of Brooks, beloved husband of Gwen Janko, passed peacefully in his sleep at the Brooks Health Centre on Sunday, September 2nd, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Albie was born on March 31st, 1929 in Brooks. With only eight years of schooling, Albie took over the family farm, worked as a carpenter and operated land-levelling equipment, which led to becoming a self-taught surveyor, and, for 23 years, worked for Public Works with the County of Newell. After retirement, Albie continued to farm with his wife Gwen until two years ago. Known by everyone as quite the storyteller, Albie entertained family and friends with his accounts of events both historical and humorous. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gwen; his daughters Arlene Currie of Brooks, Ronalie (Shawn) Campbell of Ponoka and Teree (Ken) Hokanson of Airdrie; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; also his sisters, Mildred (Joe) Kolody of Calgary and Jean Phelps of Brooks; his sisters-in-law Doreen Janko of Penticton, B.C. and Joy Layden of Red Deer and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 11th at 2:00 PM at Cassils Community Hall. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Albie, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Diabetes Association (Brooks and District), Box 187, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1B3.
